Author’s Instructions

The J. Neurotube is a video-based open-access journal devoted to publishing high-quality topics in Neurosurgery and Neuroscience.

 

Before you begin: 

  • The author should ensure that all medical research involving human subjects described has been carried out following the code of ethics of the World Medical Association (Declaration of Helsinki) for experiments involving humans subjects.

  • All authors must disclose any financial and personal relationships with organizations or other people that could have inappropriately influenced their work.

  • Copyright: Once accepted, authors will be asked to complete and provide the J. Neurotube with an exclusive license agreement.

 

General Information:

  • The journals primary content consist of the following article types:

  • Original research and review articles

  • Clinical case reports

  • Data descriptor articles (Note: Articles must point to a publicly accessible dataset.)

 

Descriptions of clinical or surgical procedures:

  • All submissions will undergo peer review by at least two reviewers.

  • The work submitted must be original, and no portion has been published or submitted and is under review in any other journal.

  • The video article consists of three parts: 1) the video file; 2) the text file with the written transcript/the oral narrative of the video, and 3) the text file with the information written in the slides/video. Optional supplemental file containing figures and/or tables that appear in the video may be submitted as complementary material.

  • The tables presented in the video should be numbered and mentioned in the order that they appear in the video and sent in a separate file.

 

Video File:

  • The name of all the authors should not be mentioned in the video to guarantee a blind peer-review process but should be added in the Main file.

    Total Video length: 2-10 minutes

  • Video file format: mp4

  • Dimensions: Minimum height of 480 pixels, aspect ratio: 16:9

  • File size limit: 500mb.

  • A video with parts of the surgical procedure is not mandatory but highly recommended (If applicable). In this case, the video should have a maximum of 2 minutes.

  • If a video is included (e.g., a part of the surgical procedure), please ensure that the patient’s information is hidden and all the material is HIPPA compliant.

 

Main File - Abstract + Written Transcript                                      Template:

  • Abstract, not to exceed 200 words in length.

  • The written transcript must match exactly the oral narrative.

  • Please include the time points (e.g., 2:15) of each section described in the video before each section's oral narrative.

  • The transcript files will not be edited for grammar or spelling errors. Ensure the text is its final version before submission.

  • References - AMA style

 

Slides Description -                                                                       Template:

  • Abstract. (Add the abstract as the first page)

  • Three to five keywords

  • Case Report Sections: Epidemiology, H&P, Imaging, Surgical Procedure, Post-op Imaging, Surgical outcomes and Follow-up

  • Maximum number of words: 500 words (Note that this does not include the oral narrative of the video)

  • The text file should have a statement about the patient’s consent and the Institutional Review Board approval.

  • The references should be added as the last page of the Main File and Slides Description.

  • Five to 10 references should be shown as a static screen for at least 2 seconds at the end of the video following AMA style.
